About this programme
The Master’s programme in “Materialwissenschaften” (hereafter: Materials Science) combines the subject-specific expertise of the faculties of Physics, Technical Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mathematics and Geoinformation, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology into an inter-faculty programme offering comprehensive interdisciplinary training in the fundamentals and applications of materials. The Master’s programme in Materials Science therefore aims to provide a broad and fundamental education in the scientific principles underlying materials, as well as their production, analysis, characterisation and application. This programme is characterised by its strong focus on fundamentals and its wide scope, which offers ample scope for specialisation. The programme is designed as relevant professional training; however, graduates also possess the knowledge and skills required for further doctoral study at TU Wien. In addition to this specialist knowledge, graduates also learn to assess and take into account the social and environmental aspects of new materials. Full details about structure and content of the programme are available in the curriculum , opens in new window (PDF) and in the list of courses , opens an external URL in a new window in TISS. Admission to the Master’s programme in ‘Materials Sciences’ is possible after completing an eligible Bachelor’s degree at an accredited national or international post-secondary educational institution.
