About this programme
General university entrance qualification, preparatory course for university acceptance or study preparatory program at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. Sound knowledge of German, plus interest in IT and technology, interdisciplinary thinking, excellent communication skills and team spirit. General application deadline: June 30, 2027 Applies to individuals with EU/EEA citizenship, a valid residence permit, or visa-free entry Special application deadline: May 31, 2027 Applies to individuals requiring a visa for entry In the 6th semester in Austria or abroad, work in a research institution or a qualified company (at least 12 weeks) During their internship, students can also work at world-renowned institutes such as the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, the EMBL in Heidelberg, the EBI in Cambridge or the Koch Institute at MIT in Boston. Among other things, research is carried out there into the development and treatment of cancer. In the exercises from the 1st semester onward, we combine the knowledge from individual courses (programming, biology, statistics). This prepares students well for the study projects starting in the 4th semester, in which tasks from external partners (companies, research institutions, health service providers, etc.) are tackled in small teams. The lecturers are coaches who are on hand to help and advise the students. I chose MBI because of the connection between computer science and biology. I wanted to help people and cover personal areas of interest.
