About this programme
Occupational therapists support their clients in being able to actively participate in social life and independently overcome the challenges they meet in their everyday activities. Occupational therapists support their clients in being able to actively participate in social life and independently overcome the challenges they meet in their everyday activities. Such challenges may arise while performing tasks that a healthy person most likely would not consider difficult (e.g. tooth brushing, dressing, meal preparation, taking the bus, maintaining social contacts, and other challenges experienced at work or in school). However, for someone who has had an accident, or suffers from an illness or a developmental disorder (e.g. among children) these seemingly simple, everyday tasks can pose a challenge or be impossible to cope with. Each Occupational Therapy intervention starts with gathering information about the client's current life situation. Everyday life with routines and activities is focused on, in order to identify limited or impaired performance as well as skills and abilities actively used. An intervention plan is developed together with the client with regard to his or her existing resources as well as the client's lifesituation. An intervention may include consultation, targeted assignments to be put into practice in everyday life, specific exercises, the application of various assistive devices or the modification of the client's environment (e.g. their living environment).
