About this programme
The three-year Veterinary Technology Open Learning Diploma is for those already working in a veterinary clinical setting. The program trains you for a career as a Registered Veterinary Technologist. Our comprehensive program embraces both academic and practical applied learning under the mentorship of experienced Registered Veterinary Technologists and Veterinarians in a full-service small or mixed animal hospital. Veterinary Technology (VTEC) graduates are in high demand and can find careers within some of these fields: Working in a veterinary clinical setting comes with a diverse range of tasks, making every day different and exciting. From assisting in surgeries to conducting laboratory tests, the work you do is ever-changing and calls for lifelong learning. The Veterinary Technology programs are delivered both onsite and through TRU Open Learning (OL). These programs are cohort-based where you will receive ongoing support from instructors, classmates and the VTEC program office. The VTEC OL program has a longstanding history at TRU, starting in 2005 and is fully accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT). The flexibility of this program allows students to obtain the theoretical portion while working in a clinical setting. The clinical, hands-on experience that is vitally important to a competent Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is provided at your workplace. In year three, a mandatory one-week on-site lab is held at TRU to obtain essential skill requirements for exotic, large and
