About this programme
Public policy decisions shape daily life and well-being. Many essential services, such as health care and education, are provided by the public sector. Using their regulatory powers, governments establish the framework for competition between firms and they protect the environment. In return for public services, individuals and firms must pay taxes. This interdisciplinary program, which draws on the tools of economic analysis, gives students a better understanding of the challenges linked to public-sector economics (federal, provincial, municipal). Domains of application include the labour market, health care, education, environment and taxation. Requirements for this program have been modified. Please consult the 2024-2025 calendars for the previous requirements. Students who intend to pursue graduate studies in economics should select MAT 1300 or the sequence MAT 1320 and MAT 1322 . A strong background in mathematics helps students succeed in advanced courses and graduate studies in economics. Students who intend to participate in the CO-OP program should take ECO 2150 and ECO 2151 in their second year. ECO 3145 , ECO 3152 and ECO 3153 are strongly recommended for studies in the Master's in Economics.
