About this programme

Our Media, Film, and Communications program provides you with a well-rounded education emphasizing both critical analysis and production of media: You will work under the direction of experienced media makers and internationally renowned instructors, producing analog and digital media with industry standard technology and software. Through hands-on labs, you will learn to use media to challenge systemic problems and social injustices, and to represent ideas in visually innovative ways. Internship opportunities (at places such as the Orillia Museum of Art and History, Rogers TV, and the South Georgian Bay Media Association) allow you to put your academic knowledge into practice in the real world. Our unique focus on topics of social change sets our Media, Film and Communications program apart from other similar programs across Canada. Class sizes are small enough to encourage you to feel comfortable with regular active discussions, creating non-hierarchical relationships and collaborative learning not only in the classroom but also in the community. Instructors in our program have real life experience so they share techniques and insights they have gained in the field. As well, internship opportunities provide you practical community-based experience, while research opportunities enable you to become involved in academic efforts to produce social change. At Lakehead you will learn how you can make a difference through courses such as the following: The program culminates in a Capstone Project in which you spend two semesters developing and creating a long-term creative
