About this programme

In this interdisciplinary minor, you’ll explore and analyze movies from international, theoretical and creative perspectives. Study everything from vampires and gender to action movies, queer cinema, national cinemas, experimental film, popular television and film in relation to visual art and literature. You can take film production courses supported by the Digital Media Lab, where students have created short films that screened and won awards at off-campus festivals. You’ll also learn from specialists in screenwriting, film scoring and sound design who can help you build the skills to study, write about and create film. This is a minor program that can be added to your primary degree to broaden your studies. You can declare your minor after one or more years of full-time study at UVic. Your academic advisor can help you plan your courses to ensure you meet the requirements of both your major and minor programs.
