About this programme

The Master of Education (Educational Leadership) program reflects recent shifts in the knowledge base and in the restructuring of educational leadership programs worldwide using a 21st Century professional practice competencies approach that integrates theory and practice. The program particularly reflects the Faculty of Education’s commitment to preparing leaders for schools and school jurisdictions. The 2027 intake is piloting a fully online version of the program. The program is completed over 25 months. Fall and Winter terms will be online asynchronously and it is anticipated that the summer components in July will be online synchronous. Individuals seeking teacher certification in the province of Alberta should refer to the Bachelor of Education program. More than 50% of the courses in this program follow an online delivery format. Please be advised that due to the blended nature of this program, graduates are NOT eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit after completing this program. "I wanted to gain knowledge, understanding and the ability to help my school be a thriving environment for staff and students," says Kirsten Collison , principal of a K–12 school in Caroline, Alta., and student in the Faculty of Education's Master of Education (Educational Leadership) program. "Effective leadership often means engaging in the frustrating, messy, exhausting, confusing, inspiring, and profound journey of learning. Learning always."
