About this programme

At Queen's University, courses are broken down by units. A course that lasts for one semester is typically worth 3.0 units while a course that covers both semesters of an academic year is typically worth 6.0 units. Students interested in pursuing a degree in Gender Studies, please consider the Major Map below, which includes a guide to completing your degree program of choice while maximizing the opportunities it has to offer. Also, be sure to check out the minimum GPA (1.9 for BAH; 0.7 for BA) required for acceptance to a Gender Studies degree program after your first year. We offer 3-year Bachelor of ARTS (BA) and 4-year Bachelor of Arts Honours (BAH) degrees, and the Certificate in Sexual and Gender Diversity. The BA in Gender Studies is intended for students completing a three-year degree in Arts and Science. Students apply to the General degree after their first year in Arts and Science and should have completed either GNDS 120 or GNDS 125. The BAH Specialization in Gender Studies provides an immersive academic experience in the field with an emphasis on feminist methods and research training. Students apply to the Specialization plan after their first year in Arts and Science and should have completed minimum one of the first-year Gender Studies courses: GNDS 120 and GNDS 125. Preference for enrolment in GNDS 440/3.0 Social Justice Practicum is given to students in the BAH Specialization Plan as it is a core requirement. The Social Justice Practicum provides a unique opportunity to directly experience and analyze the challenges of community involvement and activism
