About this programme

The BCIT Perinatal Specialty Nursing Program is the benchmark for perinatal nursing practice in BC. This comprehensive program combines in-depth theory with hands-on clinical courses designed to give you the expertise you need to practice in perinatal nursing. Perinatal registered nurses work in partnership with childbearing women and their families, providing education and support that empower their patients with the skills to care for their families. In a dynamic and, at times, unpredictable work environment, perinatal nursing requires technical expertise, sensitivity, and excellent communication skills to effectively support the women they care for. The BCIT Nursing Specialty Bachelor of Science (BSN) is a combination of our advanced certificate program and our specific academic BSN courses. Choose to complete both concurrently or study in the order that works best for you. Visit Nursing Specialty BSN for information about the required academic courses. Visit Perinatal Health Nursing Advanced Certificate for information about the required specialty courses and clinicals. Flexible Learning offers a variety of courses and programs in different delivery modes and locations to customize your learning at your own pace. You can review course prerequisites on our website and if you meet them, you’ll be able to register for that available course immediately. Some courses may require departmental approval or formal acceptance into the program. BCIT Flexible Learning courses are offered during the Winter (January), Spring/Summer (April), and Fall (September) terms.
