About this programme

Program availability varies by academic year. Refer to the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) for Domestic Students or OCAS International for the most up-to-date availability. Applications open in October prior to the next academic year. Mechanical Engineering Technology is a strong fit for creative, hands-on students who like to design, build, test, and improve how things work. The first four semesters follow the Mechanical Engineering Technician foundation, where students develop practical skills in product design, 3D modelling, technical drawings, prototyping, machining, manufacturing, and industrial maintenance. Using Northern’s advanced 3D printing studio and manufacturing lab, students work with state-of-the-art equipment such as 3D printers, scanners, mills, and lathes to turn ideas into physical parts and understand how mechanical products and systems are made. In the third year, students deepen their learning in advanced mechanical design, machine design, quality and metrology, advanced fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, mechanical labs, and applied research projects. The third-year delivery is designed to provide flexibility where possible so students can continue to work while completing the advanced diploma. Graduates may also continue toward Lakehead University’s Mechanical Engineering degree pathway by completing the required bridging program. For questions about being admitted into the program, please contact Northern College Admissions at admissions@northern.on.ca or by phone at 705-235-3211 ext. 7222.
