About this programme

The Introduction to Power Systems Protection Design Microcredential program was created to meet the increasing need of the industry for protection design specialists. This program focuses on concepts in the design of power system protection equipment. Traditional electromechanical relays protection systems are being replaced with digital relays, improving the reliability of the system and allowing more functionality. There are ongoing projects across the province that are undergoing relay and substation upgrades. The need for protection knowledge is on the rise to implement these projects and to accelerate acquiring a skill set which usually takes many years of work. This microcredential will enable students to acquire a sought-after skill in a reasonable amount of time, making them more employable. This program is open to electrical technologists or engineers, power protection workers, or those who wish to enter this field. Newcomers are recommended to take courses focusing on power systems fundamentals before attempting this microcredential for the best chances of success. Flexible Learning offers a variety of courses and programs in different delivery modes and locations to customize your learning at your own pace. You can review course prerequisites on our website and if you meet them, you’ll be able to register for that available course immediately.
