About this programme
Modern challenges in chemistry need new approaches and techniques. Our graduate students work and study in a renowned centre of innovative research, where your own research is the core of your degree. The Department of Chemistry emphasizes special areas of research over the traditional sub-disciplines of chemistry. Our faculty, featuring several Canada Research Chairs, oversee your work and support your transition from academics to the professional field. Learn everything you need to know about becoming a UVic grad student , from finding a supervisor to submitting your application. Every year, UVic awards $12 million to help fund graduate students through a combination of: Most of our students also receive external awards and scholarships, and financial aid and bursaries. Consideration for funding is automatic. A funding offer is normally included with an offer of admission. Students who have graduated with a UVic Chemistry honours degree (or an equivalent) and wish to continue their undergraduate research at the MSc level may be exempt from some coursework and complete the accelerated option in four terms. Our faculty members cover a number of focus areas in their research. Take a look through our faculty research interests and find a supervisor whose work aligns with your field of interest. Your supervisor oversees your research and supports you on your journey to becoming a professional scientist. Learn what working with supervisors looks like and how that relationship can benefit your professional growth.
