About this programme
Studying at Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies and living in Estonia provided me with a great mixture of academic skills, encouraging lecturers, and an incredibly attractive city. People at the institute are always tangible and whatever you want to do in your free time, be it hiking, serving for a community project, or clubbing, Tartu is a vibrant city which offers something for everyone. Public administration, governance, and digital transformation are nowadays deeply interconnected, reshaping how societies operate and how political decisions are made. Government–citizen interactions increasingly take place through digital platforms, which influence access to information and opportunities for democratic participation. At the same time, democratic systems are facing significant pressures. Rising political polarisation and the spread of populist, anti-establishment narratives are reshaping public discourses and sowing distrust towards governments that simultaneously have to meet citizens’ expectations of high-quality public services and meaningful involvement in decision-making. In this context, it is essential to understand how institutions, governance practices, and digital technologies interact and shape one another in the contemporary world. Building on this knowledge, one can help create governance systems that are more inclusive, resilient, and capable of adapting to the evolving demands and expectations of citizens in the digital age. The master's programme in Politics and Governance in the Digital Age provides the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate
