About this programme

Bachelor of Science studies in Computer Science and Engineering in Oulu provides a broad knowledge of the basics of computer science, for example in programming, hardware, software, artificial intelligence, data and data processing. Application of mathematics and mathematical methods are important part of computer science, and BSc studies include versatile studies in applications of engineering mathematics, for example matrix analysis, statistics and probability theory. The studies begin from the basics and therefore previous experience for example in programming is not necessary. In BSc studies the student can select the orientation by his/her own interest. Orientations are 1) Artificial Intelligence, 2) Applied Computing, 3) Computer Engineering, and 4) Cyber Security. The student can also select supplementary module and optional studies, and therefore tailor the degree to meet his/her own interest and career plan. In addition to theory, the studies are also focused on practical skills through various exercise work and projects. BSc studies provide strong foundation for Master of Science studies in Computer Science and Engineering. In Master of Science studies the student continues to deepen his/her selected orientation. Also MSc studies include optional studies and thus further supports the development of students' expert profile to suit their own needs. After completing the MSc studies a student can work as an expert of computer science and engineering, for example designing and developing new algorithms, software, hardware and systems. MSc studies also provide the qualification required for postgraduate studies.
