About this programme

Biomedical Sciences and Engineering combines engineering with life sciences Aging society and increasing interest on well-being require new solutions for more personalized and precise healthcare from novel imaging to reliable, remote monitoring of patients as well as wellness devices to support prevention and rehabilitation. Medical Physics and Biomedical Instrumentation The specialisation Medical Physics and Biomedical Instrumentation focuses on the core areas of the present-day health technology industry developing medical devices and also the core knowledge needed by professionals working as clinical physicists at hospitals. It covers the areas of well-being and medical solutions from consumer health products such as heart rate monitors and other wearable sensors to clinical applications such as anaesthesia monitors, imaging and treatment systems. The specialization provides expertise in the design of complex biomedical instrumentation and understanding the physics behind various medical imaging modalities. This specialisation has two paths: Biomedical Instrumentation, which focuses on the design and development of medical devices, and Medical Physics, which emphasises the theoretical physics background required for postgraduate studies in medical physicist specialisation and a career as a medical physisist. In this specialisation, you will learn to: apply engineering expertise to the design of devices, systems, models, or methods for health technology solutions. be aware how to design medical devices so that they would meet the desired functional, safety, and regulatory requirements for the commercialization of medical devices or systems. design and carry out a research plan to test hypotheses, to analyze and interpret the results in the context of the research, and to report the results according to scientific principles especially taking into consideration the traditions, requirements, and ethics related to engineering and life sciences. work as members of multidisciplinary teams and to apply advanced methodologies at the interface between engineering and health sciences. choosing the medical physics profile obtain knowledge on the radiation physics, radiation oncology physics, and medical imaging methods, which provides possibility to the post-graduate studies towards medical physicist specialization. Through the courses in the specialisation Medical Physics and Biomedical Instrumentation , you will be able to apply engineering expertise to the design of devices, systems, models, or methods for health technology solutions applied to health and wellness. You will also be aware how to design medical devices so that they would meet the desired functional, safety, and regulatory requirements for the commercialization of medical devices or systems. Career opportunities Graduates of this programme are prepared for careers in medical technology companies, healthcare innovation, biotechnology, diagnostics, and research organizations worldwide. They can contribute to the design, development, testing, and commercialization of advanced biomedical devices and systems, working closely with engineers, clinicians, and life scientists. The programme also provides a strong foundation for entrepreneurship, regulatory affairs, and technology consultancy within the healthcare sector. For those interested in research, it offers excellent preparation for doctoral studies and scientific careers. As the field continues to evolve rapidly, graduates are equipped with the adaptability and lifelong learning skills needed to succeed in emerging technology-driven roles.
