About this programme

Biomedical Sciences and Engineering combines engineering with life sciences Biomedical Sciences and Engineering programme combines engineering with life sciences. We need advanced monitoring devices, implants, and algorithms to deliver personalized healthcare for everyone. Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Specialisation Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering acquire broad knowledge of biomedical materials synthesis and characterization as well as interfacial interaction between biomedical devices and biological moieties. This expertise is essential for the development of several medical applications, such as implant design, disease modeling and novel transplantation therapies aiming for tissue replacement or repair. This specialisation explores different aspects of stem cell technology, scaffold design and tissue functionality as well as clinical outcomes and regulations. Our students develop the expertise to become independent experts in industry or academia. In this specialisation, you will learn to: develop a clear understanding on the principles of biomaterial science and are able to apply their knowledge to tissue engineering. develop an integrated insight on the role of cells, biomaterials, biophysical and chemical signals and growth factors in tissue engineering. appraise ethical and legal considerations of tissue engineered-products, in a clinical context. can describe how the tissues and organs can be reconstructed with the help of tissue engineering. can separate and compare different tissue types and organ structures both in macroscopic and microscopic level. The courses available in the specialisation Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering shed light on the roles of cells, biomaterials, biophysical and chemical signals, and growth factors in tissue engineering. You will also develop an understanding of the ethical and legal considerations of tissue-engineered products in clinical use. Career opportunities Graduates of this programme are prepared for careers in medical technology companies, healthcare innovation, biotechnology, diagnostics, and research organizations worldwide. They can contribute to the design, development, testing, and commercialization of advanced biomedical devices and systems, working closely with engineers, clinicians, and life scientists. The programme also provides a strong foundation for entrepreneurship, regulatory affairs, and technology consultancy within the healthcare sector. For those interested in research, it offers excellent preparation for doctoral studies and scientific careers. As the field continues to evolve rapidly, graduates are equipped with the adaptability and lifelong learning skills needed to succeed in emerging technology-driven roles. Collaboration Master's programme in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering (MSc Tech) offers following specialisations: Medical Physics and Biomedical Instrumentation Biomedical Informatics Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Biomedical Micro- and Nanodevices Furthermore, we share part of our teaching with the Master’s programme in Biomedical Technology (MSc) which offers following specialisations: Biomedical Informatics (natural sciences) Cell Technology Molecular Biology
