About this programme
Digitalisation is here to stay. The ongoing digitalisation builds on an efficient communications infrastThe ongoing and all-encompassing digitalisation process, which will eventually penetrate all industries and the whole society, builds largely on efficient communications infrastructures. The associated Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet paradigms refer to the future connected and programmable world, where not only people but also all things are able to communicate. They will have a significant impact on different vertical industries, such as energy, transportation, defence, logistics and manufacturing. Another prevailing trend in society and industry is robotisation. Modern inventions, such as autonomous cars and drones, strongly rely on highly efficient and reliable wireless communications. Finally, increasing use of modern artificial intelligence methods at different protocol layers is a major future trend. Become a Modern Communication Systems Expert The studies in Communication Systems and Networks focus on Future Internet, computer networks and the evolving and emerging (4G, 5G and beyond – 6G) wireless broadband and multi-service communication systems, which are crucial elements for the future connected world. Our wide selection of courses gives you the flexibility to explore your interests and specialise in the following focus areas: Networking and Computer Networks cover various aspects of wired and wireless packet-switched networks and the Future Internet Radio Systems and Networks provide you with a theoretical understanding and skills related to the practical optimisation and planning of wireless radio communication systems and networks. Positioning, Sensing and Space Systems develops your expertise in satellite and terrestrial positioning, covering modern GNSS systems, 5G/6G positioning, integrated sensing and communication, and radar technologies. We offer you a unique learning environment for Communication Systems and Networks among world-class researchers and well-equipped laboratories. Tampere Wireless Research Centre is internationally well-established, multidisciplinary team of ten professors and about a hundred researchers. Communication Systems and Networks (MSc Tech) is one of the engineering specialisations in the Master’s Programme in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering. While there may be courses that are available online, studies at Master's Programme in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering require on-campus attendance.
