About this programme

Why choose Human-Technology Interaction? Human-Technology Interaction (HTI) focuses on understanding and shaping the relationships between people and technology, and on designing digital products, services and interactive systems that serve human needs, abilities and values. Combining psychology, design and computing, the study track prepares students to design, develop and evaluate accessible, engaging and responsible digital solutions in a rapidly changing world. Human-centred design, research and emerging technologies HTI is suited to students interested in both people and technology, including user experience, design, interaction development, psychology, research, emerging technologies and the societal impacts of digital transformation. The breadth of the curriculum allows students to explore a wide range of perspectives on human-technology interaction, from user research and service design to human-centred AI, multimodal interaction and immersive technologies. The study track offers three complementary study profiles: Designer, Interaction Developer and HTI Researcher. Students may specialise in one profile or combine courses across orientations to create an individual competence profile aligned with their interests and career goals. HTI education is closely connected to research conducted at Tampere University, particularly within the TAUCHI Research Centre and the Gameful Realities Research Centre. The studies combine research-based teaching with practical project work and collaboration across disciplines. Research-led education Research is integrated throughout the curriculum, enabling students to develop both practical and analytical skills for understanding people, evaluating technologies and making evidence-informed design decisions. Many courses combine theoretical foundations with practical assignments and project work. Depending on their course selections and thesis topics, students may engage with research areas such as human-centred AI, multimodal interaction, accessibility, extended reality, sociotechnical systems and gameful technologies. The studies emphasise multidisciplinary collaboration and teamwork, often in connection with research activities or industry projects. In addition to understanding existing technologies, students learn to critically examine emerging developments and contribute to shaping future technologies in ways that are beneficial for people, organisations and society. Human-Technology Interaction is a specialisation in the Master's Programme in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering.
