About this programme
Qualify as a Professional Guidance Counsellor! Professional guidance counsellor education is further education for teachers, providing the qualifications for guidance counselling positions at various education levels. This education can also be useful when aiming for guidance and counselling roles outside educational institutions. The education equips you with the skills to work as an expert in guidance and counselling work related to education and career paths and as a developer of guidance services. The education is 60 ECTS in scope, and the studies take 1-1,5 years to complete. The studies are conducted in a blended learning format, providing the opportunity for personalised progression and the ability to study while working. Can I apply? You are eligible to apply for the professional guidance counsellor education programme if you are qualified as a teacher of vocational or general subjects in vocational education in Finland. If you have obtained a teaching qualification outside Finland, you must first obtain a recognition decision from the Finnish National Agency for Education confirming your eligibility as a teacher in Finland. Participating institutions : Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) is the only institution that offers professional guidance counsellor education in both English and Finnish. The other professional teacher education institutions offer the education only in Finnish. The other professional teacher education institutions are Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Jamk), Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) and Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK). Professional teacher education institutions have a jointly agreed application process for the professional guidance counsellor education. The application period takes place annually in January. Student selection is based on a national admission scoring system and applicants are selected in the order of their admission scores. Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) is not participating in this application process and selects its students through a selection course.
