About this programme

As a nurse, you plan, implement and evaluate drug treatment and various treatment procedures. You also conduct examinations and take into account the individual needs of each patient, even in demanding situations. You work in responsible positions, as a nursing expert in a multi-professional work community in public and private service provider units and in third sector organizations/associations. The core of your profession is the prevention and treatment of diseases, as well as the assessment of the client/patient's condition using various methods and supporting functional capacity in the event of illness. We invest in face-to-face teaching because without it, competent nurses cannot be created. In addition, the work includes guiding, advising and supporting the patient's relatives. In VAMK's nursing education, you get to practice various care situations, from operating rooms to emergency care and maternity care. During your nursing studies, you will acquire a strong theoretical foundation and study practical skills in simulations in a modern clinical skills training environment at the University of Applied Sciences. Your studies include 50 weeks of work placement in various care environments and you will also complete a work-life-oriented thesis. Nursing studies involve various projects and organizing events and activities. At the same time, you will learn the teamwork and organizational skills necessary in the profession. Future nurses have been involved in memory buddy activities, where a person with memory loss gets a friend from a student, and the student gains important experience in meeting people with memory loss. The students have also been able to teach first aid skills to city residents, organize blood donation events, and have been involved in various health-promoting campaigns.
