About this programme

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Information Technology at UEF provides students with a strong foundation in Computer Science. The curriculum covers programming, algorithms, data management, software design, and human-computer interaction, from introductory to advanced levels. In addition to Computer Science studies, students complete one or two minor subjects, which may include Data Science, Business, Law, Social Sciences, or Environmental Sciences. The BSc in Information Technology is a full-time, three-year degree programme. Most studies are delivered through face-to-face teaching on the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. Some courses are implemented in collaboration with the Bachelor of Engineering (Information and Communication Technology) programme offered by Karelia University of Applied Sciences. After completing the Bachelor's degree, students can continue directly to the Master's Degree Programme in Information Technology (IMPIT). This two-year MSc programme offers strong opportunities for research and professional development. The programme prepares graduates for careers in the ICT sector, and many students secure internships, thesis placements, or employment with Finnish ICT companies before graduation. Students interested in research also have excellent opportunities to continue to doctoral studies, as they can join research groups during their MSc studies.
