Language and Literature - Modern Language and Literature Bachelor programme (BA/ BSc) Faculty of Letters CLUJ-NAPOCA Program description English Language and Literature - Finnish Language and LiteratureThe English language and literature program offers a variety of courses, combining the expertise of philological studies with frontier disciplines that sit at the avant-garde of the humanities. The objective of the study programme is to develop the students’ linguistic and communication capacities, their critical thinking and ability to interpret texts, thus offering future graduates a series of crucial competencies for the workforce, but also for their personal development. The mandatory courses follow the historical evolution of English and American literature (the Medieval and Renaissance English literature, the literature of the Enlightenment, the poetry of the 18th century and Romanticism, the literature of the Victorian Era, the English literature of the 20th century, contemporary English literature, American literature) and developing students’ knowledge of traditional linguistics (phonetics, lexicology, morphology, syntax, language history) and theoretical linguistics (formal semantics, generative grammar). In addition, there are a series of optional and practical courses that enable students to better understand the field of study and relate it to their own interests. The specialization can be combined with Finnish as a segment B language. The graduates of Finnish language and literature studies on the one hand will have a workable knowledge in the field of Finnish language and culture, and on the other hand they will have the necessary skills in order to be employed in fields typically covered by the graduates of the Faculty of Letters of UBB: in language schools, in the cultural life, in the media, at communication companies and in other related fields.
