Language and Literature - Modern Language and Literature Bachelor programme (BA/ BSc) Faculty of Letters CLUJ-NAPOCA Program description English Language and Literature - Korean Language and LiteratureThe English language and literature program offers a variety of courses, combining the expertise of philological studies with frontier disciplines that sit at the avant-garde of the humanities. The objective of the study programme is to develop the students’ linguistic and communication capacities, their critical thinking and ability to interpret texts, thus offering future graduates a series of crucial competencies for the workforce, but also for their personal development. The mandatory courses follow the historical evolution of English and American literature (the Medieval and Renaissance English literature, the literature of the Enlightenment, the poetry of the 18th century and Romanticism, the literature of the Victorian Era, the English literature of the 20th century, contemporary English literature, American literature) and developing students’ knowledge of traditional linguistics (phonetics, lexicology, morphology, syntax, language history) and theoretical linguistics (formal semantics, generative grammar). In addition, there are a series of optional and practical courses that enable students to better understand the field of study and relate it to their own interests. The specialization can be combined with Korean as a segment B language The undergraduate study program Korean Language and Literature was created in 2008, as part of the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures. It offers students the possibility to study the Korean language and culture both as a Major and a Minor. Graduates are prepared to work in the field of culture and communication, as linguistic consultants, translators, interpreters and international relations consultants.
