About this programme

Site visits to regional tourism destinations combined with research conducted at Dalarna University aim to give you knowledge as to how sustainable tourism is implemented in Sweden and the world. Interaction with peers and staff from some 15 nations will expand both your professional network as well as your understanding of different cultural needs and values. You will learn about assessing global changes in the tourism industry and interpreting these changes in a local situation. You will gain the ability to critically assess the consequences of different strategies for sustainability and tourism. These skills and this knowledge will help you join our many graduates who now work internationally as marketing and project assistants, service centre advisors and event managers. The programme is delivered as a campus-based programme in Borlänge and taught in English. The Master’s Programme in Sustainability and Tourism is a two-year, 120-credit programme taught in English. The courses combine theory, research, and practical insights with a focus on sustainable tourism, destination marketing, and cultural heritage management. In addition, you will benefit from field visits to businesses, cultural heritage managers, and regional tourism destinations, as well as guest lectures and seminars led by industry professionals, international partner universities, and alumni — giving you opportunities to build networks and learn about research and the job market. In the first semester, you will study the four main modules of the programme. Each contributes to an aspect of sustainability
