Qualitative Methods for Language Research

About this programme

This course prepares students to independently plan, conduct, and report linguistic studies using qualitative approaches. Students acquire knowledge and develop skills in study design, as well as in the collection and analysis of data from various types of studies using qualitative approaches to linguistic research, with a focus on multilingualism. Furthermore, the course deepens students’ awareness of research ethical standards. The course is a part of Master's Programme in Multilingualism and Second Language Acquisition. You can also apply for the course as a free standing course. Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars. 85 % attendance is mandatory. The language of instruction is English. The course is examined on the basis of written assignments, a group assignment with an oral and a written presentation, and a final written in-class exam. The language of examination is English.
