About this programme
In this course you will learn about basic concepts and methods in non-relativistic quantum mechanics, such as Dirac notation, Hermitian operators, Hilbert spaces and the position and momentum representation. You will also deepen your knowledge in the connection between quantum mechanics and linear algebra, the generalized uncertainty principle and the connection between quantum mechanics and classical physics. The course also covers descriptions of more realistic physical problems by focusing on the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and wave packets, time-dependent perturbation theory and basic scattering theory. You will also meet quantum mechanical entaglement and Bell's inequality and get an introduction to density matrices. This course is also an excellent base for further studies in physics on advanced level. This is a first cycle course given during daytime at half speed. The course is part of the bachelor programme in physics, but can also be studied as a standalone course. The teaching consists of lectures and exercise sessions. The lectures are based on traditional black board teaching where the key parts of the course are covered. The lectures are at the same time interactive and the students are challenged to actively analyse and conceptualise the course content. The exercise sessions contain applied exercises and are based on problem solving by the students. The course is examined through a written exam at the end of the course and hand-in exercises during the course.
