About this programme
During this intensive, demanding course you will complete a challenging variety of complex live projects, working on cultural artefacts lent by leading public and private institutions as well as individual collectors. We will teach you to manage all phases of conservation practice, from examination, state-of-the-art analysis, proposal and documentation to the treatment itself and future care recommendations. This pathway focuses on the conservation and restoration of 3D cultural objects in stone, wood, plaster and terracotta. Decorative surfaces such as gilding, polychromy, lacquer and japanning and the conservation of ornate frames are integral to the course. The two-year Diploma of Higher Education Conservation: Stone, Wood & Decorative Surfaces, covers the same specialist syllabus as the first two years of the BA (Hons) programme . This provides a good alternative option if you would prefer to study for a shorter period or would like to enhance existing skills and knowledge. Find out more about the Diploma of Higher Education on an open day or email us at admissions@cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk These courses are validated by Arts University Bournemouth . Our high standards and results have been consistent, and have been regularly affirmed by our External Examiners.
