About this programme
Explore why some young people come into contact with the justice system, and how factors such as trauma, poverty, exploitation, education, family, care experience, substance use, mental health and inequality can shape their lives. Our BSc Criminology with Youth Justice focuses on one of the most important questions in criminal justice: how should society respond when children and young people are affected by crime, harm, vulnerability or offending? The Criminology course connects academic study with real-world issues, using applied learning, case-based teaching and specialist facilities to help you understand how crime, harm and justice are experienced in practice. Work with police forces, visit a crime scene and explore real cases to put your learning to the test outside the classroom. We work with law enforcement, private companies and experts in the field to bring you the latest developments in criminology. Explore the main issues around youth crime and the youth justice system, as well as how society responds to young offenders. Build your understanding of crime, justice and youth offending, exploring why people offend, who is affected and how the criminal justice system responds to children and young people. Explore how the criminal justice system works in practice, from investigation and prosecution to sentencing and rehabilitation, while developing your understanding of criminal law, rights, fairness and justice. Examine why people offend and why some people are more vulnerable to victimisation, considering criminological and victimological perspectives alongs
