About this programme
Do you love looking at artefacts, museums and world heritage sites, or your local folk museum? Are you intrigued by how we lived and designed homes, and the decorative and functional items in them, throughout ages, countries and cultures to survive and flourish? Combine the study of Archaeology with Art History to understand in detail artefacts and art history throughout major ages. Did you know? Aberdeen is ranked 3rd in the UK for Archaeology and Anthropology (Guardian University Guide 2025) The MA Archaeology route focuses on the humanities and social science side of archaeology. Courses in Archaeology will cover subjects such as the origins of modern humans, colonisation of the north, history and theory of archaeology, Scottish archaeology and excavation and research skills. The Art History programme at the University of Aberdeen encompasses the study of art, architecture, and curation, covering a wide range of media and techniques. Research-led teaching situates European art in its global connectedness and its full complexities, while practical engagement with artworks beyond the classroom develops and enhances both vocational and transferable skills. You could work globally in galleries and archaeology sites, teaching and communicating knowledge globally. The University of Aberdeen is delighted to offer eligible self-funded international on-campus undergraduate students a £6,000 scholarship for every year of their programme. This course, which is prescribed for level 1 undergraduate students and articulating students who are in their first year at the University
