About this programme
Graduate outcomes: Strathclyde ranked joint 1st in Scotland HESA Graduate Outcomes results 2026 Flexible degree: apply once and choose from 11 named degree routes at the end of Year 2 Study the molecular processes that underpin life and explore how microorganisms grow, interact with their environment, and influence health, disease and biotechnology. This degree combines biochemistry and microbiology with practical laboratory experience and research-led teaching to help you understand the biological systems that shape the living world. Biochemistry and microbiology help us understand how life works at the molecular level and how microorganisms influence health, disease and biotechnology. Biochemistry explores the molecules and reactions that make life possible, from genes and proteins to metabolism and cell signalling. Microbiology examines bacteria, viruses and fungi, exploring how they grow, cause disease and can be harnessed for biotechnology. Studying biochemistry and microbiology together allows you to investigate microorganisms and disease from multiple perspectives. You'll explore how microorganisms function at the molecular level and how this influences their growth, survival and interactions with their environment. In infectious disease, for example, you can examine the biology of a pathogen alongside the molecular mechanisms it uses to obtain energy, respond to stress, survive within a host and cause infection. You'll also explore how antimicrobial resistance develops, how microbial metabolism influences disease, and how microorganisms can be harnessed for bi
