About this programme
Graduate outcomes: Strathclyde ranked joint 1st in Scotland HESA Graduate Outcomes results 2026 Flexible degree: apply once and choose from 11 named degree routes at the end of Year 2 Study the molecular processes that underpin life and explore how the immune system protects health, responds to disease and supports recovery. This degree combines biochemistry and immunology with practical laboratory experience and research-led teaching to help you understand the mechanisms that shape human health throughout life. Biochemistry and immunology help us understand how the body works and what changes in disease. Biochemistry explores the molecules and reactions that make life possible, from genes and proteins to metabolism and cell signalling. Immunology explores how the immune system protects us from infection, recognises damaged or abnormal cells, helps repair tissue and facilitates pregnancy, and how inappropriate immune responses can contribute to diseases such as allergy and autoimmunity. Studying biochemistry and immunology together lets you investigate biological problems at every level, from single molecules to whole systems. Cancer, for instance, is driven by changes in the molecular pathways that control cell growth and metabolism, but also by the way tumours interact with the immune system. In autoimmune and inflammatory disease, faulty immune responses go hand in hand with molecular changes in the tissues they attack. And in a fast-growing field known as immunometabolism, the same metabolic pathways that biochemists have long studied turn out to control how im
