About this programme
The BA (Hons) Social Work at Liverpool Hope University prepares you to support people facing trauma, inequality and some of life’s toughest challenges. You’ll learn how social injustice shapes people’s experiences and how social workers can support, safeguard and empower individuals and communities. The programme has a core focus on social justice and empowerment, helping you understand the public causes of personal pain. You’ll study sociology, psychology, social policy, law and social theory, exploring barriers such as poverty, disability, racism and sexism. Across your second and third year, you’ll complete 170 practice days in real social work settings across the Cheshire and Merseyside region, building confidence and professional skills. There’s a strong emphasis on the core practice skills you’ll need to prepare for a long and rewarding career in social work, developed through participative learning, simulation‑suite scenarios, and input from service users, practitioners and former students. You can also access international opportunities, including placements in India and a mental health Summer School which includes an exchange trip to Michigan, USA. Our Social Work degree is approved by Social Work England (SWE) and achieved full reapproval in 2022. When you successfully complete the course, you’ll be eligible to apply to register with SWE, ready to make a real difference in people’s lives. Teaching in this degree is organised into lectures and seminars, where all students are taught together, and weekly tutorials. Throughout the three years of study, there are
