About this programme

Successful completion of this child nursing degree will allow you entry to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register as a qualified children’s nurse and ready to embark on a rewarding career. This three-year child nursing degree combines theory and practice in an innovative way, to focus on the care of children across a wide range of healthcare settings. Children's nurses are able to understand the developmental needs of children from birth to transition into adult life and how this is affected by ill health. There’s an equal split between theory and practice, which is integrated throughout all our nursing courses. Supervised placements are an integral part of the child nursing programme. These are in our partner health boards, as well as in the community and independent sector. Throughout your child nurse training, you will learn in our impressive health facilities. Our Clinical Simulation Centre replicates clinical environments for education and training. You’ll work on patient simulators that mimic the body’s reactions to illness, care and treatment. Core subjects apply to all fields of nursing whilst field-specific sessions allow you to put theory to practice, helping children in a variety of care settings. Your introduction to nursing essentials, including key concepts in physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health. Developing essential skills. Learn to identify, define, and measure health needs across a lifespan. Apply health promotion, protection, and well-being theory to practice.
