About this programme

Build the foundations for a bright future with this 4-year BEng degree. You’ll gather all the knowledge and skills a successful Civil and Structural Engineer needs. Graduate ready to contribute to structures that stand the test of time. What does Civil and Structural Engineering involve? You’ll learn to work with vital infrastructure – from soaring motorway flyovers and towering skyscrapers to underground metro systems far below the earth. That begins with the design stage – which might involve creating technical drawings, building prototypes and using software. Then comes construction – getting boots on the ground to turn your plans into something real. Finally, you’ll need to maintain and repair your work to keep it delivering for generations to come. And build the computing, mathematical, drawing and communication skills you need to thrive as an engineer. In your third year, you’ll really put theory into practice with a placement year in industry. This will build your network and your confidence. And it’s great experience for your CV - for many graduates, their placement is the first stepping stone in a great career. When you finish your degree, you’ll be well placed to go straight into a graduate civil engineering role. This is a profession with a high demand for skilled graduates. Not only that – you'll also be ready to make a huge contribution to society. We also offer a 3-year version of the BEng programme without the 'sandwich' placement year in industry.
