Studying in Norway: the essentials

01Intakes and Application Periods

The main academic intake is generally in autumn. Application deadlines differ by institution, programme and applicant nationality.

Some English-taught programmes, particularly at master's level, may have specific application procedures and early deadlines for applicants from outside the EU/EEA.

Students should check whether their chosen programme accepts international applicants with their qualifications.

02Tuition Fees and Scholarships

Tuition arrangements depend on the institution, programme and student's nationality or residency status. Non-EU/EEA students may be required to pay tuition fees at many Norwegian institutions, although exemptions or different arrangements may apply in specific cases.

Living expenses in Norway can be substantial. Applicants should calculate tuition, accommodation, food, transport and other costs before applying.

Scholarships may be available through specific institutions or programmes, but funding is not guaranteed.

03Working While Studying

Eligible international students with a Norwegian study permit can generally work up to 20 hours per week during the academic term and full-time during scheduled holidays, subject to the conditions of their permit.

Students must maintain their study commitments and should not depend entirely on part-time work to cover their expenses.
