Norway study permit from Dhaka: apply at the Danish VFS centre, UDI decides

Norway has no visa centre of its own in Dhaka. You submit a Norwegian residence permit application in person at the Denmark Visa Application Centre run by VFS Global, in Delta Life Tower, Plot 37, Road 90, 4th Floor, Gulshan North, Dhaka 1212, and the Danish Embassy handles it for Norway 1. VFS is the company that receives applications. The Norwegian embassy page adds a condition: to apply from Bangladesh you must be a Bangladeshi citizen or hold a residence permit in Bangladesh for at least six months 2.
Who decides
The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) processes the application in Norway. The Danish Embassy forwards it and contacts you once UDI decides 1. Short-stay Schengen visas for Norway are different: the Danish Embassy assesses and decides those itself, and the VFS centre plays no part in the decision 1.
The study permit
The study permit is a residence permit for studies longer than three months 3. UDI lists these conditions 3:
- admission to a university college or university, and full-time study, at an institution on the NOKUT list of approved institutions
- money to live on: at least NOK 15 488 a month, or NOK 170 368 for the whole academic year. For one semester only it is NOK 77 440 (autumn) or NOK 92 928 (spring)
- money for tuition, or proof it is paid, if fees apply
- somewhere to live
- circumstances in the home country that show it is likely you can return home after studying
The application fee for applicants over 18 is NOK 5 400, also for renewals 4. The Danish embassy says two payments apply to Norwegian residence permit cases, an online fee to the embassy and a service fee to the VFS centre, but it does not give the amounts 1. You download the application form and checklist from UDI first 1.
If you are granted a study permit, you may work part-time up to 20 hours a week, including remote work, and full-time in holidays. Self-employment is not allowed 3.
Following your case
UDI's My page lets you see your applications, documents sent, fee payment and appointment booking, and you log in with ID-porten or with an email address 5. UDI also sends a monthly email or SMS about what is happening with your case 56. It publishes a waiting-time guide for study permits, updated monthly, but the pages read give no fixed figure 6. No status wording is published on those pages 56.
For help with the application process, the VFS helpline is +88-09606 777 000 or +88-09666 911386 12.
The European Commission's 2024 consulate sheet has no Schengen short-stay row for Norway in Dhaka, only in New Delhi, so there are no Dhaka refusal numbers to quote 7.
Have your UDI application number and your ID-porten or email login ready for the status check above.
