About this programme

In the Bachelor’s Programme “Finanz- und Versicherungsmathematik” (hereafter: Financial and Actuarial Mathematics), you learn how to apply mathematical methods specifically to problems in finance and insurance. You develop and analyse complex models using statistics and probability theory. For example, for analysing financial markets, developing hedging strategies and trading algorithms; calculating risks in life, pension and property insurance; or modelling natural catastrophes. Together with the Master’s Programme in Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, the programme covers the theoretical part of the Austrian actuarial training. TU Wien is the only university in Austria to offer the complete actuarial training program. There is no selection procedure for the Bachelor's degree programmes in Technical Mathematics. Instead, before being admitted, you must engage with the contents of the programme as part of the so-called Study Preparation and Reflection Phase (Programme-PRe-Phase). To help you assess your skills, we provide a self-assessment , opens an external URL in a new window . The self-assessment is voluntary and serves as a guide to help you evaluate whether the chosen degree programme is a good fit for you. You should enjoy mathematics and have an interest in applying it to complex economic problems. It is helpful if you are scientifically curious, a teamplayer, and are willing to independently explore new subjec
