About this programme

In the Bachelor's Programme “Technische Chemie” (hereafter: Technical Chemistry), you acquire fundamental knowledge of chemistry, practical skills for working in a chemical laboratory, an understanding of the implementation of chemical processes on an industrial scale and the related regulatory and operational frameworks, as well as general scientific and technical knowledge and skills that can be applied beyond the field of chemistry. You should be interested in and enjoy the production and characterisation of substances and materials, as well as experimental work. Although manual dexterity, computer skills and foreign language skills are of advantage, they are not required from the outset. A three-day orientation course for new students, including two full days in the laboratory, will be offered starting on 1 October. Graduates are acquainted with practical work in chemical laboratories, as well as with the underlying theoretical principles and fundamental chemical concepts. They have mastered the technical terminology and are familiar with important methods used in this field. They understand the fundamental properties that characterise matter and how it can be transformed. They can develop, apply and evaluate methods for synthesising and characterising substances, and understand how to specifically influence chemical reactions and equilibria. There are currently just under 4,000 chemists employed in Austria. This number increases by 2 to 3% every year. Unemployment rates are very low. Around half of our graduates work in application-oriented professions, a quarter in
