About this programme
Anthropology is the study of human societies and cultures, exploring how people live, think and interact across different communities and parts of the world. Anthropologists ask questions like why societies develop differently and how culture and social change influence everything from business and health to politics and conflict. UCalgary's Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology focuses on the social and cultural dimensions of human experience, preparing you to understand behaviour, navigate cultural differences and approach complex challenges from multiple perspectives. Take your learning further through opportunities like field studies in Ghana, where students engage with local communities and NGOs, or gain 12 months of paid experience through Arts Co-op in areas such as community development, research and policy. Anthropology graduates build careers across government, community development, museums, research, non-profit organizations and the private sector. UCalgary Anthropology graduates have become community development officers, museum education directors, traditional knowledge facilitators and government policy analysts. Across UCalgary's Anthropology and Archaeology community, more than 2,400 alumni have gone on to careers with organizations ranging from TransCanada Pipelines to the National Science Foundation. Explore topics through courses such as Magic, Witchcraft, and Gods: Anthropology of Religion; Anthropology of Development; Urban Anthropology; and Anthropology of Global Systems.
