About this programme
Examine society’s most pressing challenges through advanced interdisciplinary research, social inquiry, and leadership development. Building on Trent’s world-class reputation in interdisciplinary scholarship, this innovative Ph.D. program emphasizes social inquiry, interdisciplinary research, and professional scholarship as the foundation for addressing complex social issues. With a holistic approach to professional scholarship and skills development, the program provides theoretical, methodological, and experiential training to develop leading scholarship and build understanding of key social, material, and environmental issues facing societies, both historically and in the present day. Develop flexible interdisciplinary social research skills that can be applied to address the research and analytic needs of the public sector, NGOs, community-based and corporate employers. Build interdisciplinary foundations through coursework, then conduct original research culminating in a dissertation that contributes knowledge across two or more social science or professional disciplines. I was so incredibly excited to come back to Trent to the Interdisciplinary Social Research PhD program and to continue to work with Dr Naomi Nichols. I was awarded an SSHRC -CGS-D to examine the intersection of the human right to housing in Canada and the increasing reliance on the use of neo-vagrancy laws across Canadian municipalities as my dissertation topic. Director, Interdisciplinary Social Research Ph.D. Program, Assistant Professor, Trent/Fleming School of Nursing
