About this programme

Join an esteemed community of Canadian scholars in the country’s only interdisciplinary doctorate program of its kind, bringing together diverse perspectives from across disciplines to explore Canada. Pursue unique research interests while broadening your knowledge of Canada and its place in the global context. Through coursework and a doctoral thesis, you will develop expertise in research-intensive areas and participate in critical conversations connected to Canada in a collaborative learning environment. This program prepares graduates to become thought leaders in Canadian academia, as well as a variety of governmental, not-for-profit and private sector roles. Grounded in Trent’s deep roots in Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies, the Frost Centre brings together students and scholars across disciplines in a supportive, globally engaged academic community. The Frost Centre serves as the base for graduate students and faculty in the Canadian Studies Ph.D. program. Develop specialized expertise through intensive research training, coursework, and a doctoral thesis. Gain experience through available summer research assistantships and benefit from Trent funding for the first four years of the program. The Canadian Studies Ph.D. program is structured around five fields of research foci: The PhD program helped me to connect my research to relevant and contemporary issues in Canada, thus preparing for life in academia as well as treating humans with dignity. Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in the Study of the Canadian North, Professor, School for the Study of Canada
