About this programme
The course acquaints the student with problems of religion and law in Europe, such as European values and religions, religiously motivated legal regulations (e.g. abortion law in Poland), religious freedom (e.g. bans for the Yehovah’s Witnesses in Russia), bans related to Islam (e.g. bans of burka in France, Belgium, etc.; bans for minarets in Switzerland). The relationship of law and religion in a global world, especially in a diverse Europe, is a part of European identity. The aim is to understand how state church relations are regulated in Europe and in given European countries. This is also to understand the reasons of such regulations or policies.
