Middle Eastern and North African Politics and Economy

About this programme

The course deals with both the politics and economy of the region, as well as earlier research and central theories on the subject. The course will give an overview of the region’s economies. We will move from the oil-rich Gulf countries to impoverished states. Focus is on economic development and reform in modern time, industrialization, diversification, strategic rents, political reforms and international pressure. Emphasis is put on the various development strategies that the countries of the region have undergone in modern times. The course details, lecture planning and literature list for Fall 26 can be found in the learning platform Canvas closer to the start of the semester. The course is examined on the basis of a smaller number of written essay assignment. Do you have questions about the courses in Middle Eastern and North Africa's Languages and Cultures?
