About this programme
The course treats the fundamentals that govern the formation of spectral lines in astrophysical objects. It deals with the transport of radiation through astrophysical media where absorption and emission processes together with hydromagnetic effects take place. It also treats the use of analytical and numerical models to perform calculations of the formation of synthetic spectra. All these concepts are used in applications to stellar atmospheres and interstellar gas. The course is given during daytime and is part of the Bachelor’s Programme in Astronomy. You can also take the course as a freestanding course if you fulfil the entry requirements. The course is taught in English. The teaching consists of lectures, where preparation before each session is very important. Scheduled problem‑solving sessions with teachers are also offered. The course additionally includes a mandatory computer laboratory. The course is examined with a written examination and hand-in questionnaires during the lectures. The course makes use of notes developed by the teachers that are made available to the students on the course page at the Stockholm University digital teachning plattform. To follow your passion.
