About this programme
Are you interested in the reasons for crime and how we deal with it as a society? Discover the people, policies and institutions that shape crime and justice today. Crime, justice and public safety affect us all. On this degree, you'll explore why crime happens, who it affects and how the criminal justice system responds. The course covers topics including policing, prisons, punishment, victimisation, gangs and knife crime, terrorism, gender and offending, and the media’s influence on how we view crime. You'll also explore criminological theories and examine how social, political and economic factors shape offending. Based at our Greenwich Campus in London, you'll study in an ideal location for criminology. With many of the UK's leading criminal justice institutions nearby, the city offers unique opportunities to explore crime, justice and public protection. Learn from leading academics and practitioners with professional experience in policing, probation, prisons, youth work, public policy and specialist support services. Through their practical knowledge and research expertise, they’ll bring current issues and real-world examples into the classroom. The course develops skills in research, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving. These will give you a firm foundation for roles in policing, probation, prisons, youth justice, community safety and the civil service. Our graduates have also gone on to careers in teaching, social work and wellbeing support roles where strong reflective, evaluative and people-centred skills are valued.
