Austrian universities generally run two semesters, winter and summer. Application closing dates are commonly 5 September for the winter semester and 5 February for the summer semester, and foreign applicants are advised to apply as early as possible.
Third-country students holding a Residence Permit - Student generally pay EUR 726.72 per semester at public universities. Universities of applied sciences set their own fees.
Third-country students generally need an employment permit, including for marginal employment, which the employer applies for at the Public Employment Service (AMS). A permit for up to 20 hours a week is commonly granted without a labour market test.
After graduating, a one-time renewal of the residence permit for 12 months may generally be available to look for work or start a business.
For the student residence permit, OeAD (Austria's agency for education and internationalisation) says students under 24 must show EUR 722.58 a month and students aged 24 or over EUR 1,308.39 a month (2026 figures), for twelve months in advance. More is needed if rent is above EUR 386.43 a month.
We help students explore Austrian institutions and suitable programmes based on their academic backgrounds and career goals.
Our support includes admission guidance, application document preparation, information about institutional requirements and guidance through the relevant residence permit process.
We aim to help students make informed decisions and prepare for their international education journey.
