Studying in United Kingdom (UK): the essentials

01Intakes and Application Periods

Many UK universities offer September or autumn intake, while January and other intakes are available for selected programmes.

Application deadlines and entry requirements vary by institution and course. Students should check academic qualifications, English-language requirements, tuition fees and any additional admission conditions before applying.

02Tuition Fees and Scholarships

International tuition fees vary considerably by university, programme and level of study.

Some institutions offer scholarships, bursaries or tuition discounts to eligible international students. These opportunities have specific conditions and may be competitive.

Students should prepare a full budget covering tuition, accommodation, living expenses, visa costs, the Immigration Health Surcharge where applicable and other required expenses.

03Working While Studying

Eligible full-time students studying at qualifying institutions may generally work up to 20 hours per week during term time if their Student visa permits it. Some students have different work conditions depending on their course and sponsor.

Students must follow the exact work conditions stated on their immigration permission.
