UK Student visa from Bangladesh: three-week target and no status tracker
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
GOV.UK gives a processing time of 3 weeks for Student and Child Student visa applications made from outside the UK, on a page last updated on 9 September 2026 1. The same page gives 3 weeks for a Standard Visitor visa and 12 weeks for family visas such as partner, parent or child 1.
There is no tracker to wait on
The UK does not have a public status tracker. GOV.UK says UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) cannot give information on the status of an application that is still within its normal processing time 2. The decision arrives by letter or email 2. What you can use is the "Check your visa processing time" online service, which tells you when to expect a decision 6.
Processing times are counted in the UK working week, Monday to Friday, and include UK public holidays. Holidays in other countries are not counted 1. GOV.UK also tells you not to book travel until you have a decision, because UKVI will not repay your costs if processing takes longer 1.
What can make it slower
GOV.UK lists reasons a decision may take longer than the normal time. The information may be inaccurate or need more consideration. More evidence, such as proof of funds, may be needed. Documents may need checking, or an interview may be needed 1. These are reasons for delay. They are not reasons for refusal.
Where and how to apply
UKVI, part of the Home Office, decides 3. The GOV.UK "Find a visa application centre" page lists Bangladesh and links to VFS Global, the company that runs the centre 3. Processing starts once you have verified your identity and submitted your documents. You do that either with the UK Immigration: ID Check app, where UKVI allows it, or at a visa application centre by giving fingerprints and a photograph 3.
The Student visa
The Student visa is for people aged 16 or over who apply from outside the UK. Under-18s at independent schools use the Child Student visa 4. You need a current passport or other valid travel documents and a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your course provider. A CAS is the reference number your university or college gives you once it has accepted you 5.
Depending on your case, you may also need:
- proof you have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course
- tuberculosis test results
- a valid ATAS certificate, if your course and nationality require one
- written consent from your financial sponsor, if one paid your course fees and living costs in the last 12 months 5
Applicants under 18 also need proof of parental or legal guardian consent and proof of their relationship to that parent or guardian 5.
GOV.UK's Bangladesh visa fee page and official refusal statistics for Bangladesh were not part of this check. Look up the current fee on the Home Office site.
Because there is no tracker, the status check above is most useful with your processing-time details and application reference to hand.
