About this programme

Archaeology uses evidence left behind by past societies to understand how people lived, adapted and interacted with their environments. Archaeologists combine clues from artifacts, human and animal remains, landscapes and environmental evidence to investigate questions about human history and cultural change. UCalgary's Bachelor of Science in Archaeology takes that investigation further by using science to reveal what archaeological evidence can tell us about people, animals and environments. As one of only a handful of universities in North America offering a dedicated Archaeology degree, UCalgary combines hands-on laboratory analysis with field experience, building scientific and technical skills that prepare you to investigate archaeological sites and pursue careers in professional archaeology. Archaeology BSc graduates can build careers in archaeological consulting, cultural resource management, environmental assessment, government and research. Cultural resource management is the largest employment sector for archaeology graduates in Canada, creating opportunities to apply scientific and technical skills in field investigation, laboratory analysis and environmental assessment for projects across industries such as energy, transportation and natural resources. Explore topics through courses such as Human Osteology, analyzing human skeletal remains; Zooarchaeology, using animal remains to understand past societies; Fundamentals of Geoarchaeology, applying scientific techniques to archaeological sites; and Human Evolution, exploring the biological history of our specie
